Dear MARCHA Community,
As the president of MARCHA, I want to share with you our response to the recent decision by the United Methodist Publishing House to cease the translation and publication of the Book of Discipline in Spanish. This decision deeply concerns us, as it undermines the United Methodist Church’s commitment to inclusion and disproportionately impacts our Latine and other non-English-speaking communities.
Language is a vital bridge to participation, empowerment, and belonging in the church. By eliminating these translations, we are effectively marginalizing entire communities and creating barriers to full participation in the life and governance of our church. This decision contradicts our calling to be a church that welcomes and embraces all people, regardless of the language they speak.
MARCHA is committed to advocating for a just and equitable church where all members have access to the resources necessary to fully engage in our denominational life. We are willing to support and engage in creative conversations to ensure that these essential resources continue to be available. Furthermore, we firmly believe that the financial burden should not fall on our communities, as that would not be just or equitable. Providing these resources is part of the church’s ministry and aligns with our mission of making disciples for the transformation of the world. This means being relevant and accessible in the languages of our people.
We urge the leadership of the United Methodist Church to reconsider this decision and to work toward solutions that uphold our values of inclusion and justice. We call upon our allies and all who believe in a truly inclusive church to stand with us in ensuring that language is never a barrier to full participation in our faith community.
MARCHA remains steadfast in our commitment to justice, equity, and the dignity of all people in the United Methodist Church. We will continue to advocate, collaborate, and seek solutions that reflect our core values of love, inclusion, and belonging.

Declaración Pública de MARCHA sobre la Decisión de Cesar las Traducciones del Libro de Disciplina
Querida comunidad de MARCHA,
Como presidenta de MARCHA, quiero compartir con ustedes nuestra respuesta a la reciente decisión de la Casa Metodista Unida de Publicaciones de cesar la traducción y publicación del Libro de Disciplina en español. Esta decisión nos preocupa profundamente, ya que socava el compromiso de la Iglesia Metodista Unida con la inclusión y afecta de manera desproporcionada a nuestras comunidades latinas y de habla no inglesa.
El acceso a los recursos fundamentales de nuestra Iglesia en el idioma de nuestras comunidades no es un lujo, sino una necesidad para garantizar una participación plena y equitativa en la vida de la denominación. La falta de traducciones crea barreras innecesarias para el liderazgo, la formación teológica y la toma de decisiones informada dentro de nuestra Iglesia.
Ante esta situación, MARCHA está dispuesta a apoyar conversaciones creativas para asegurarnos de que estos recursos continúen estando disponibles para nuestras comunidades. Creemos firmemente que la carga económica de este esfuerzo no debe recaer sobre nuestras comunidades, ya que esto no sería justo ni equitativo. La traducción y distribución del Libro de Disciplina es parte del ministerio de nuestra Iglesia y una expresión de nuestra misión de “hacer discípulos de Jesucristo para la transformación del mundo”. Esto significa ser una Iglesia relevante y accesible en los idiomas de quienes la conforman.
Instamos a nuestros líderes y a toda la Iglesia Metodista Unida a comprometerse con soluciones que reflejen nuestra identidad como una Iglesia verdaderamente inclusiva. Sigamos trabajando juntos para asegurar que todas las personas tengan acceso a los recursos esenciales que guían nuestra fe y práctica.
